A company in Hungary makes a multi-million dollar investment in PET recycling, and a Dutch firm paves the way for converting colored PET into clear feedstock.

A Hungarian plastics recycling company has invested nearly $10 million in a new research and development hub, Recycling International reports. The investment, more than half of which is from a European Union grant, will help Recy-Pet Hungaria boost its ability to recycle PET bottles at a nearby bottle-to-bottle recycling operation.

A Dutch company, Ioniqa Technologies, has received funding to launch a recycling process that turns colored PET into natural, or clear, PET, Resource Efficient Business reports. There has been some discussion within Europe of the challenges associated with processing colored PET, as there is no viable conversion technology available to convert colored flake into clear.

The Huffington Post has published a thorough look at getting recycling right in Australia. It covers the container deposit system as well as challenges posed by plastic bags, foam trays and more. Read it here.
