Germany-based BHS-Sonthofen says it will unveil its redesigned Universal Shredder model NGU at the IFAT 2016 exposition in Munich, Germany, in early June. The new product has been designed to extend the company’s range of single-shaft shredders and to be “suitable for all materials that can be cut,” according to the company.

BHS-Sonthofen says the NGU is characterized by a sturdy design and easy operation. The new Universal Shredder is available in several versions, including one with a 30 millimeter screen perforation that offers throughput of up to 6.5 tons per hour.

The NGU “can be used at conventional recyclers for shredding various materials, for example, for cutting paper and paper rolls, for destroying files and data media, as well as for almost all plastic parts, leather and textiles, residual wood, cables or parts made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate),” says the company.

“Our aim is for our customers to achieve the lowest possible processing costs per ton,” says Dennis Kemmann, managing director of BHS-Sonthofen GmbH. “Before getting down to the design, we asked many users what their main shredding requirements were. Their answers and the long-standing experience of our engineers were incorporated into the design. The result: a completely newly developed machine that economically shreds everything you can possibly cut.”

The throughput of each model depends to a large extent on the density and toughness of the material as well as the method of feeding, says the company.

Other features of the redesigned NGU Universal Shredder include:
• drives that are frequency controlled;
• blades of the rotor shaft that can be utilized on both sides and are rotated with minimum manual effort; and
• a counter-blade that can be adjusted to help ensure the cutting gap is always optimally calibrated.

At IFAT, BHS-Sonthofen also will present the new SpeedCut Granulator type NGV, which offers a throughput of up to 15 tons per hour and is designed for the granulation of waste to create refuse-derived fuel (RDF).
