Latest news stories from PetroChemWire: Recycled HDPE Boosted by Tighter Scrap and Higher Prime

Rising prime PE prices combined with tight HDPE bale supply are encouraging higher recycled HDPE prices in late April. HDPE post-consumer natural (dairy) repro rose 3 cpp last week to 72 cpp FOB southern US for spot business. Other business based on monthly contracts was at 63-69 cpp FOB Southern US. Recycled HDPE post-consumer fractional melt mixed color pellets were up 3 cpp to 46-52 cpp FOB US East Coast.

In the prime market, generic HDPE BM was up 2 cpp at 57 cpp railcar delivered last week. Offgrade HDPE frac melt suitable for non-pressure pipe was put at 51-52 cpp railcar delivered; some customers were pushing for prices in the mid-upper 40s cpp. Meanwhile, prime polyethylene suppliers remained on track last week to implement a 4 cpp price increase this month, following a 5 cpp increase in March.
