A representative from one of Asia’s largest bottled water companies and plastics recycling entrepreneur Mike Biddle will be among the speakers at the fifth annual Plasticity Forum. The event will be held in Shanghai April 27, 2016, at the Andaz Hotel in that city’s Xintiandi district.

The general manager of marketing for Hong Kong-based A.S. Watson Industries Ltd., Kim Siu, will offer a presentation titled “Moving from zero to 100% in one step.” Siu will describe how Watsons Water engaged in an “exciting shift from zero to 100% rPET for Watsons Water bottles in Hong Kong in 2015, the first company in Asia to make such a move.”

The initiative by Watsons has the potential to divert some 75 million plastic bottles from the waste stream annually, according to the firm.

The Shanghai event’s keynote speaker is Mike Biddle, founder of and a director with MBA Polymers. The United Kingdom-based firm, which Biddle started from his garage in California, now operates 15,000 tons per year of plastics recycling and processing capacity in the U.S., Europe and China. Biddle also now serves as the managing director of Evok Innovations, which is focused on alternative energy.

The Plasticity Forum’ organizers say the April 2016 event is timed to coincide with the large Chinaplas trade show.

Also participating in the forum will be officials from Jiangsu Province, “who are leading the way in China in an effort to create a strong circular economy system within their industrial parks and business communities,” says Doug Woodring of the Ocean Recovery Alliance, the lead organizer and founder of the event.

“We are pleased to be hosting our fifth annual event in Shanghai, where sustainability, innovation and design are coming together to maximize the benefits that plastic offers as a material, both for primary use and in the way it is transformed for use in the growing circular economy of resource optimization,” states Woodring.

This year’s Plasticity event will include a half-day workshop April 28 titled “Products and Packaging – Designing Sustainability.” Partners for the workshop include Successful Design, CBi China Bridge and Green Initiatives.
