Hall County, Georgia, continues glass recycling

An online article in the Gainesville Times reports that Hall County, Georgia, Recycling Center will continue to recycle glass items, despite a local private hauling company’s announcement that it will quit accepting glass starting July 1, 2016.
Bobby Purdum, resource recovery superintendent, agreed with Red Oak Sanitation, Gainesville, Georgia, that glass is no longer marketable.
“We don’t make any money off of it at all,” Purdum told the newspaper. “It’s basically a wash.”
While the center will continue to receive glass recyclables, Purdum advised residents to separate glass from plastic as well as they could to reduce contamination.
Tim Citrone of Red Oak said the company expects to have accurate numbers about the effects of canceling glass collection in August. He added that several of the company’s competitors have stopped accepting glass in winter or spring.
