New Hampshire high school builds recycled greenhouse

Students at Alvirne High School in Hudson, New Hampshire, have recycled plastic bottles to build a school greenhouse, according to an article in the New Hampshire Union Leader.
The 8-by-6-foot greenhouse was built using slightly damaged bottles donated by Southeastern Container Inc.’s Hudson plant. Each wall uses more than 1,200 bottles, which are set around bamboo poles and fitted in a structure of locally donated wood, the newspaper says.
The project was led by Mike Sedlisky, a chemistry and earth science teacher for 41 years. According to the article, the idea was suggested to him by Southeastern Container administrative manager Diane Holt, who had visited Sedlisky’s class on several occasions to speak about sustainability. Since last spring, Sedlisky and students and graduates helped with construction during study halls and on weekends and school breaks, the Union Leader says.
