NWRA holds Safety Professional Development Series event in Chicago

In a room packed with more than 40 waste and recycling industry safety professionals, the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) delivered its second event in its 2016 Safety Professional Development Series in the Chicago area. The daylong session, hosted by Republic Services, Phoenix, featured workshops on Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance as well as the development of positive safety cultures.

On the heels of a successful first session in Boston last month, NWRA has set out to move the needle on safety industry-wide. This series takes safety experts from both the waste and recycling field as well as direct delivery, compliance and training into the field to educate and inform members on the latest innovations and guidance in safety.
 
“There is no greater priority in our industry than improving safety and doing all we can to ensure that our workers and the communities we serve as safe and healthy,” says Anthony Hargis, NWRA national safety director. “These sessions provide valuable opportunities to bring together safety representatives from member companies and others in the field to discuss shared concerns and develop solutions. We are taking these opportunities straight to our members where they live and work. Through these conversations we can have a lasting impact on the behaviors and actions of our operators in the field.”

This event is part of NWRAs commitment toward making the waste and recycling industry safer, smarter and stronger. This effort includes these safety professional development sessions throughout the nation, webinars, summits, safety stand downs and the development of toolkits and resources.
