Somerset Welding achieves ISO 9001:2015 certification
<![CDATA[

Somerset Welding, Somerset, Pennsylvania, has transition its ISO 9001:2008 certification to the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

Somerset Welding and Steel is a subsidiary of Riggs Industries, Boswell, Pennsylvania. The company currently operates J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers and J&J Truck Equipment.

ABS Quality Evaluations, an auditing and certification body headquartered in Houston, issued the Certificate of Conformance, the scope of which applies to “Design and manufacture of dump bodies, trailers, pressure vessels and truck equipment; mobile hydraulic system design and installation; pressure vessel installation, repair and inspection; installation of vehicle mounted truck equipment; sale and repair of equipment used in construction, mining, energy and gas production, utilities, state and municipal governments; custom fabrications utilizing steel, stainless steel and aluminum.”

J&J says it was one of the first truck body manufacturers in the U.S. to receive its ISO 9001 certification in 1997. Since then the company says it has continued to improve processes and procedures with the mission of developing a culture of customer satisfaction. The company says its quality management system is based on the four pillars of J&J’s quality policy: satisfying customer needs, producing high quality products, delivering on time and improving continuously.

The ISO standard requires an annual surveillance audit and a recertification audit every third year by an underwriting agency, such as ABS, to verify conformance to the ISO 9001 standard. Additionally, the company says internal audits of processes and procedures are required to assure it is meeting its quality objectives.

Michael Riggs, senior vice president of J&J says, “At J&J, we believe that certifying our quality system through a third party like ABS demonstrates to our customers, J&J’s commitment to quality and that they can be confident investing in J&J’s products and services. Our quality system, over time, made us, and continues to make us, a better company that believes in continuous improvement.”
