The Swiss company Hurni AG offers earthworks and construction material as well as demolition, disposal and recycling services. Since mid-2015, the company has used a Sennebogen 821 electric material handler for preliminary sorting of recyclables.

Remo Recycling AG, a subsidiary of Hurni AG that is headquartered in Bienne, Switzerland, specialises in recycling and disposing construction and municipal material. In June 2015, the sales and service partner Kuhn Schweiz delivered an 821 material handler from Germany-based Sennebogen equipped with an electric motor and crawler traveling gear. Driven by a 90-kilowatt electric motor, the material handler works to preliminary sorting and load incoming materials. The machine has been placed on a ramp and can be moved using the crawler traveling gear.

Operations Manager Heinz Gstrein says, “Due to the proximity to existing housing developments, a main focus of our procurement criteria was on minimizing noise pollution and avoiding emissions. This is optimally achieved by the environmentally friendly electric motor. Not only does the machine work much more quietly, the electric solution also reduced the operating costs by around 70%.”

Great emphasis was placed on equipping the machine, according to a news release from Sennebogen. With a 2.70-metre elevating Maxcab industrial cab, together with armoured glass panes and the inclined windshield, the operator has an optimum overview of the work area during sorting. The machine itself has a 11-metre-long piece of equipment with a sorting grab and can be supplied with current via the trailing cable. Thanks to the electric drive, not only were the operating costs considerably reduced in comparison with conventional diesel machines, but all components have increased service life and longer maintenance intervals, Sennebogen says.
