Atlanta-based Crown Paper Group Inc. has announced executive promotions, capital investments and targeted performance improvements at Montebello Container Corporation, a Southern California based corrugated sheet producer it acquired in September 2015.

 “Crown is pleased to announce that Anthony Salcido has been promoted to chairman of Montebello and Larry Vas has been promoted to resident of Montebello,” says Crown CEO Steve Klinger. “Under their leadership, Montebello integrated seamlessly with our Port Townsend Paper mill to ensure product continuity; continued providing quality, timeliness and responsiveness that customers demand; improved productivity and executed successful upgrades.”

The Port Townsend, Washington, mill consumes “the equivalent of one-third of Washington’s collection of recycled cardboard each year,” the company claims on its website. The mill consumes more than 300 tons of recycled-content pulp daily, and each of the grades produced by Port Townsend Paper is manufactured using old corrugated containers (OCC).

Adds Klinger, “When Crown acquired Montebello in 2015, we were energized to work with their team. They had built a fine business over five decades. We were confident that they could leverage Crown’s experience in building excellent packaging businesses, and our access to capital, to execute upgrades and improve performance.”

In 2016, Montebello increased production more than 20 percent and implemented an operational excellence program. It invested in facility upgrades at its La Mirada and Pico Rivera, California, sheet feeder facilities as well as it its corrugated sheet plant in Santa Fe Springs, California.

Crown Paper Group is a holding company that was created in 2015 by New York-based Lindsay Goldberg, an investment firm that manages $14 billion of equity capital and partners with businesses with the goal of building long-term value. In addition to the recycled-content Port Townsend Paper containerboard mill, Crown Paper operates sheet and box plants and distribution centers in California and in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.
