Brazilian plastics firm looks to build in Florida

Clodam do Brasil, a Brazilian plastics recycling company, is looking to build a plastics recycling facility in Jacksonville, Florida. A representative with JAXUSA Partnership, a private, nonprofit division of the Jacksonville Chamber, says the Brazilian company began looking to open a U.S. manufacturing facility in 2015 and focused on Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
After narrowing their search in Florida to two sites in the Jacksonville metro region they settled on a site in Northwest Jacksonville. The company recently leased a 100,000-square-foot facility in the metro Jacksonville area. In choosing Jacksonville, the company cited the accessibility of the port and the logistics infrastructure.
The company will operate under its newly established American company name Florida Plastic Recycling LLC.
With the new facility, the company will bring 30 new jobs and invest $7 million in the local economy. The plastic bottles the company recycles will be used to create raw plastic flakes that will be used by other companies to make plastics products.
JAXUSA adds that the new company’s presence has already attracted one new company that could purchase its end product and another company, an international plastics furniture manufacturer, is considering building a manufacturing facility in the Jacksonville area.
According to a report in the Jacksonville Business Journal, Clodam do Brasil purchased two machines from a German company that will be used for cleaning, sorting, chopping and producing plastic flakes.
An official opening is planned for this March.
