The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), Washington, has announced the winners of its fifth annual Vehicle Safety Awards. The awards, which are in the Best Fleet and Pacesetter categories, distinguish ISRI members that have demonstrated a strong commitment to the safety of employees and the public through effective fleet safety programs, according to the association.

“Proper training, maintenance and execution are all part of a strong safety transportation program,” says Commodor Hall, ISRI transportation safety director. “When any one of these aspects is overlooked, safety is jeopardized and lives are placed at risk. Recognizing those that are the best in the field sets the bar high and emphasizes the importance a strong safety transportation program within the recycling industry. The recipients of this year’s Best Fleet and Pacesetter awards have clearly demonstrated to be the best in their class when it comes to safety of their drivers and sharing the road with other motorists.”

The Best Fleet Award is presented to ISRI members with the lowest vehicle accident rate and the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation recordable rate in a given year. It is presented in three classes based on number of miles driven.
