Sussex, Wisconsin-based QuadPackaging, a provider of packaging solutions, has announced its membership in the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), a project of GreenBlue, Charlottesville, Virginia, a nonprofit dedicated to the sustainable use of materials in society.

“QuadPackaging is proud to join this industry working group of innovators that are focused on equipping businesses with the science and resources to make products more sustainable,” says Tom Garland, president of QuadPackaging. “Since our inception, we have supported initiatives and invested in educational opportunities that promote the responsible use of natural resources, and now we are taking that commitment one step further to help broaden the understanding and applications of sustainable packaging.”

As a member of SPC, QuadPackaging says it will collaborate with partner organizations involved in all aspects of packaging systems to advance the thinking and environmental initiatives that are driving packaging sustainability.

Anne Elsea, communications coordinator for GreenBlue, says, “As an established industry leader, QuadPackaging delivers innovative, environmentally responsible solutions. We are pleased to have QuadPackaging as a member and look forward to collaborating with Quad’s industry experts on advancements in packaging sustainability.”

QuadPackaging says it explores opportunities at every stage of the supply chain to leverage design innovation to reduce clients’ carbon footprint and minimize costs such as using low basis weight materials like eucalyptus to reduce shipment weights from 25 tons to 20 tons. QuadPackaging says it believes that sustainability and good business are not mutually exclusive but rather two pieces in a puzzle that fit together.

The company says it also is committed to supporting responsible forestry practices related to harvesting, biodiversity and protecting endangered species. QuadPackaging holds chain of custody certifications from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FCS).
