Brazil is growing as an exporter of pulp for paper production, according to figures published by Ibá ,The Brazilian Tree Industry Association.

“Positive results continue for paper, with exports reaching 702,000 tons sold” during the first quarter of 2017, according to an early June press release from Ibá. “This represents growth of 1.9 percent compared to the same period of 2016, when 689,000 tons were traded,” says the group.

Regarding export destinations, “more than 44 percent of the pulp Brazil exported went to China,” says Ibá, referring to pulp for both paper and wood panels in this case. The pulp shipped to papermakers creates a competing material for recovered fiber traders.

Overall Brazilian pulp production surpassed 6.3 million tons in the first quarter of 2017, growing 5.1 percent compared with 2016, says the group, and pulp for paper accounted for 3.4 million tons of the total.
