EnerSys, headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, has earned the 2016 Leaders in Sustainability Award from Call2Recycle Inc., a nonprofit organization headquartered in Atlanta.

The award recognizes partners in the U.S. and Canada within different sectors of the battery industry for their commitments to recycling and environmental preservation. This year, the North American awards program honored EnerSys collection sites.

EnerSys manufactures and distributes reserve power and motive power batteries, battery chargers, power equipment, battery accessories and outdoor equipment enclosure solutions to customers worldwide. Motive power batteries and chargers are used in electric forklift trucks and other commercial electric powered vehicles. Reserve power batteries are used in the telecommunication and utility industries, uninterruptible power supplies and numerous applications requiring stored energy solutions, including medical, aerospace and defense systems. Outdoor equipment enclosure products are used in the telecommunication, cable, utility and transportation industries and by government and defense customers. The company also provides aftermarket and customer support services to its customers from more than 100 countries through its sales and manufacturing locations around the world.

“We take our commitment to environmental and social responsibility very seriously,” says Jeffrey Long, president, Americas, EnerSys. “The Leaders in Sustainability Award exemplifies that commitment. We’re honored to be among the leaders in battery recycling throughout North America.”

“Through the collaboration and strong support of partners like EnerSys, the Call2Recycle program continues to divert record numbers of batteries from landfills each year,” says Carl Smith, chief executive officer and president of Call2Recycle. “EnerSys efforts to collect batteries and promote recycling is helping make a difference in our environment.”

The 2016 Leaders in Sustainability Award comes on the heels of the EnerSys Warrensburg, Missouri, facility winning a gold award from the Missouri Water Environment Association (MWEA). The award further demonstrates the EnerSys commitment to the environment.

EnerSys operates nearly 70 recycling centers in the United States and eight in Canada. Along with its own batteries, EnerSys recycles lead acid batteries of all sizes, from all manufacturers. EnerSys says it provides a complete range of recycling support services that meet state and federal regulations.
