ISRI proposes changes to shelmo and ropes specifications

The Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries‘ (ISRI) board of directors will consider changes to its nonferrous specifications for shredded electric motors (shelmo) and wheel weights (ropes) during its Winter Meeting Feb. 1, 2018. ISRI’s Nonferrous Division approved the changes in November 2017. The proposed changes to these specifications are intended to more accurately reflect the nonferrous scrap commodities currently being traded in the marketplace, ISRI says.
The proposed modifications would change:
- the maximum allowable amount of aluminum-wound material in the shelmo specification from 10 percent to 5 percent; and
- the ropes specification title from “wheel weights” to “lead wheel weights.”
At the meeting, the board may choose to adopt, amend or reject the recommendations of the division or table them pending further review.
