Sweden-based Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Canada-based ArticCan Energy Services Inc. to establish a facility to use scrap tires as boiler fuel.

Enviro indicates the MOU is “a first step in establishing a new plant in Canada.” The Swedish firm further states, “The agreement is valid for a period of 18 months and applies to a recycling plant of 30 000 metric tons of end of life tires per year.”

ArticCan, based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, has been in operation for more than 10 years. The firm provides services to the oil and gas industry and has expanded its operations to include the provision of energy efficiency, environmental and sustainability services.

“Canada is a very important market for us,” says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro. “Several leading tire manufacturers are established in the region and there is also a high presence of other rubber producers as well.”

“The signing of the MoU with Enviro represents a significant milestone in our strategic vision of finding a sustainable solution that allows recovery of valuable materials from end of life tires,” comments Dr. Anastassia Manuilova, a vice president with ArticCan.

Enviro describes itself as an environmental company that offers “profitable recovery of tires and processed materials primarily to the rubber industry.” The company sells facilities to industrial investors and also operates its own plant for end-of-life tires in Åsensbruk, Sweden.
