2022 Annual Meeting & CRA Board Elections

CRA held the annual business meeting and town hall on Tuesday, March 22 during the 32nd Annual Conference and Trade Show at the Hilton Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach, SC. During the annual meeting we discussed 2022 CRA Board of Directors Elections as well as the State of the CRA.

We are pleased to welcome five newly elected or re-elected members to the CRA Board of Directors:

Tori Carle – Waste Reduction Supervisor, City of Greensboro (Greensboro, NC)
Dameon Hopkins – Program Coordinator (Waste and Recycling Manager), University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC)
Alex Miller – Program Manager, SC DHEC (Columbia, SC)
Dave VanDeventer – Solid Waste and Recycling Manager, Clemson University (Clemson, SC)
Wes Westbrooks – Waste Logistics Specialist, BMW Manufacturing Co. (Greenville, SC)

Your 2022-2023 Board Elect!

Tori Carle – Waste Reduction Supervisor, City of Greensboro (Greensboro, NC)


Tori's Statement:
Tori Carle has worked for the City of Greensboro and been a member of the CRA since 2015. Tori received her BS in Biology and MS in Environmental Science from UNC Wilmington and serves on the Board of Directors for the CRA. She'd like to continue serving CRA in her current capacity as the Secretary of the Board.

2022 Recommendation Statement from the Board:
The CRA Board recommends Tori Carle because of her commitment to the board, as well as her role as the current CRA Secretary. Tori’s experience is a strong asset for the organization and her skills and willingness to serve as Secretary fill a critical and immediate need for the board.

Dameon Hopkins – Program Coordinator (Waste and Recycling Manager), University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC)


Dameon's Statement:
Dameon Hopkins is pleased to be candidate to serve on the CRA board. With his selection Dameon will be working to help the promotion of the CRA. He hopes to bring an enthusiastic addition to the board and the organization in general with some ideas and creative efforts.

Alex Miller - Program Manager, SC DHEC (Columbia, SC) ***


Alex's Statement:
Alex began at DHEC in 2017 as a regulation editor and moved to Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling in 2019. She manages and assists several programs (Recycle Right SC, Smart Business Recycling Program, and Don't Waste Food SC) and provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to SC local governments. Alex earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science from the USC and a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from the College of Charleston.

Dave VanDeventer – Solid Waste and Recycling Manager, Clemson University (Clemson, SC) ***


Dave's Statement:
Having been a member of the CRA for over 20 years gives Dave VanDeventer valuable insight into the organization. He is a current board member and wishes to serve the CRA membership for 3 more years to complete his term. Dave's commitment to the committees and the board will add stability, value and succession as they move forward. One of his goals is to help develop new leaders for future boards.

2022 Recommendation Statement from the Board:
The CRA Board recommends Dave VanDeventer because of his experience in financial management, previous experience as a treasurer, and his willingness to serve CRA. Dave has served the board as chair of the Finance Committee, and is prepared to transition into the role of CRA Treasurer.

Wes Westbrooks – Waste Logistics Specialist, BMW Manufacturing Co. (Greenville, SC)


Wes's Statement:
Wes Westbrooks currently manages the waste and recycling department at BMW Manufacturing Company LLC; he has been doing this for the past 18 years. In addition, Wes chairs a state council for South Carolina to further recycling and create a network for companies working in SC as well as other duties. He has been involved in several notable projects including taking the BMW ProAm golf tournament landfill free.

2022 Recommendation Statement from the Board:
The CRA Board recommends Wes Westbrooks due to his extensive experience serving as the CRA Treasurer. His familiarity with CRA’s finances and operations, strong history of commitment to financial stewardship for the organization, as well as his willingness to mentor the next treasurer make him an essential addition to the board.
