PetroChem Wire: Recycled PET feels downward pressure

September 10, 2015

Prices in the entire PET complex, from curbside bottles to various grades of recycled material to prime PET, were lower at the very beginning of September due to ample availability and weaker end-summer buying interest.

In the recycled market, clear FDA-sanctioned pellet was 72 to 75 cents per pound FOB East Coast, while clear flake from high-grade bottles was 46 to 47 cents per pound FOB East Coast. Both were down 1 cent per pound from a week earlier.

Meanwhile, prime U.S. bottle-grade PET on a railcar delivered Midwest fell 1 cent per pound to 59 to 62 cents per pound at the beginning of September, following a price decline of 3 to 5 cents per pound in August. The market anticipates the launch of a world-scale prime PET plant in Corpus Christi, Texas next spring.
