Cherry Companies has announced that Ivan Svec is joining its management team as a vice president. The Houston-based demolition and recycling firm says Svec has “extensive experience in the construction industry and will serve to strengthen the continued growth in the organization, as well as execute key business strategies.”

Says Svec, “It is very exciting to have the opportunity to join Cherry Companies. Their strong market presence, emphasis on safety and reputation for quality and performance is impressive. I am looking forward to being part of this dynamic team.”

Born and raised in Houston, Svec’s construction career started with Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Brown & Root, working from its Houston office from 1991 to 1997. During his stint with that firm he worked in project controls and as a project engineer in several Brown & Root divisions, including its Heavy Civil, Marine, Oil and Gas, Paper and Pulp and Power divisions.

Upon leaving that firm, Svec joined Webber Construction LLC, based in The Woodlands, Texas, for nearly 20 years, from 1997 to 2016. During his career at Webber he worked as a project engineer, project manager, area manager and regional vice president in Webber’s Heavy Civil Construction Industry division, primarily constructing roads, bridges and airports.

Cherry describes itself as a family of recycling and demolition companies specializing in the removal of all types of structures and as one of the largest recyclers in Texas, recycling more than 3 million tons of concrete and asphalt and thousands of tons of steel each year, plus asphalt shingles and tires.
