The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), Washington, has announced the election of Spokane, Washington-based Clearwater Paper Corp. President and CEO Linda Massman as its board’s new chair as well as its 2017 slate of officers. The association’s winter board of directors meeting was in Washington Jan. 26.

 “The American Forest & Paper Association board represents preeminent industry talent and vision, and I am honored to lead our members in accomplishing our key advocacy priorities for the coming year,” said Massman. “Our agenda targets regulatory reform, comprehensive tax reform, transportation efficiency measures and trade policy. On all, we will provide ideas for forward-thinking policy improvements that allow our businesses to compete at home and around the globe.”  

Massman was elected as Clearwater Paper’s CEO in 2013 after serving as the company’s president and chief operating officer since 2011 and chief financial officer from 2008 to 2011. Before joining Clearwater Paper, she served as group vice president of finance and corporate planning for Supervalu Inc. and as a business strategy consultant for Accenture. Prior to being elected chair of the AF&PA board, Massman served as vice chair and as AF&PA Political Action Committee co-chair.

AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman said, “Under Massman’s leadership, we are ensuring policymakers in Washington, D.C., and state capitals across the country understand the needs of our industry. With 900,000 employees in family wage jobs in large and small communities across 45 states, our U.S. manufacturing operations and our products are a foundation of American daily life. Our industry’s contributions to our nation grow even brighter when efficient and effective regulatory, tax, transportation and trade policies unleash our ability to invest, innovate and compete wherever we are located.”

Also elected as officers are Memphis, Tennessee-based Evergreen Packaging Inc. President and CEO John Rooney (first vice chair) and Delaware, Ohio-based Greif Inc. President and CEO Peter Watson (second vice chair). Lake Forest, Illinois-based Packaging Corp. of America Chair & CEO Mark Kowlzan will serve as immediate past chair.

Beginning new terms as AF&PA board members in 2017 are Michael Doss, Graphic Packaging International Inc.; Watson; James Morgan, Interstate Resources; Matthew Kaplan, KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp.; Richard McLeod, The Procter & Gamble Co.; Philip Rundle, Rolland Enterprises Inc.; Colin Moseley, Simpson Lumber Co. LLC; Christopher DiSantis, Verso Corp.; and Steven Voorhees, WestRock Co.

The AF&PA says its board of directors currently consists of 21 industry leaders who represent a broad spectrum of companies in the paper and wood products manufacturing sector.
