Howell, Michigan-based Battery Solutions, which offers end-to-end lifecycle management and customized recycling solutions for batteries of all chemistries throughout North America, has added Donald Lynch, Ph.D., as vice president of operations. Lynch has an engineering and operations background and a 20-year Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement mastery, the organization says.

As vice president of operations, he will be responsible for leading the operations, engineering, logistics and QEHS (quality, environmental, health and safety) departments, supervising the Michigan and Arizona warehouses and the battery sorting operations and alkaline and nickel metal hydride recycling facility.

“Don brings an esteemed skillset of Lean Six Sigma,” says Thomas Bjarnemark, Battery Solutions CEO.  “His background of continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma is exactly what we need to continue implementing our aggressive growth strategy and the addition of new technologies.”

Lynch says, “I was pleased to accept this position for three reasons. First, I know the outstanding reputation Battery Solutions has earned within the industry—one of leadership and innovation. Second, I know and believe in Battery Solutions’ vision and ability to deliver growth with industry-leading service as we enter new markets and employ new technologies to meet the needs of our customers. And, finally, I know Battery Solutions has great people and great core competencies from which we can build upon. It’s an exciting time, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Prior to joining Battery Solutions, Lynch worked as a Lean Six Sigma master black belt and production system deployment champion for SKF Group, a multibillion dollar multinational bearing, seals, mechatronics and service organization, from 2004 to 2017. Prior to SKF, he worked for Visteon Corp., a tier-one automotive supplier, serving from 2001 to 2004 as a corporate Six Sigma master black belt. From 1996 to 2001, he was a plant manager and then corporate director of engineering and software quality assurance and master black belt at Diamond Electric Manufacturing Corp., providing tier-one engineering and quality support to DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) and Ford. Lynch began his career at Ford Motor Co. in 1990 and held several positions, including divisional launch coordinator and production supervisor.

Lynch earned a doctorate in philosophy in mechanical (industrial) engineering at Colorado State University in 2001, and a postgraduate certificate in Lean Six Sigma at the University of Michigan in 2004. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1990.

He is a guest lecturer and conference leader at the University of Michigan College of Engineering and Center for Professional Development and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy. He is a fellow member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD), the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

Lynch works out of Battery Solutions’ Howell corporate headquarters and can be reached at 800-852-8127.
