Ernst & Young (EY) has announced that Rick Perez, founder and CEO of Avangard Innovative, headquartered in Houston, is a finalist for EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 in the Gulf Coast area. Award winners will be announced at a gala event June 16, 2016, at the Hilton Americas-Houston.

Avangard is a leading company that serves midlevel to Fortune 500 businesses, identifying, collecting and processing recyclables, as well as working with them to reduce or reclaim spent resources in daily operations.

Now in its 30th year, the EY Entrepreneur of the Year program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 60 countries throughout the world who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

A panel of independent judges selected Perez as a finalist.

He also is the founder of the 3E Foundation, which provides computers to poverty-stricken schools in Latin America and scholarships to students, focusing on empowerment, education and environmental issues for children. He also is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and is a board member of the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP).

“I’m extremely proud to be recognized as a finalist by Ernst & Young,” Perez says. “We have an incredible team, investors, advisors and colleagues, which enables us to provide superior results for our clients and business partners and make great contributions to the health of the environment.”

Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year national overall award winner, will be announced at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year National awards gala in Palm Springs, California, Nov. 19, 2016. The awards are the culminating event of the EY Strategic Growth Forum, a gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.

Founded and produced by EY, the Entrepreneur of the Year awards are nationally sponsored by SAP America, Merrill Corp. and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
