London will host next Plasticity event

The sixth edition of the Plasticity Forum has been scheduled for 21 September 2016 in London as part of the London Design Festival.
Plasticity events are designed to bring together stakeholders from across the plastics spectrum to discuss innovation and the dynamics of scaling processes, materials and recycling to reduce waste and create value, according to Doug Woodring, one of the show’s organisers.
“The event’s aim is to recognise the value that plastics bring to society while also embracing both sustainability and the circular economy and the large scale changes that are required in order to reduce its waste impacts,” he adds.
Plasticity Forums, the most recent of which took place in April 2016 in Shanghai, also are designed to offer “a big conversation on the future of plastic” and discuss where opportunities can be created related to recycled content, resource recovery, job creation and waste reduction, Woodring says.
The September 2016 event is positioned as part of the London Design Festival to enable the design community to be at the table regarding sustainability discussions, options and opportunities, says Woodring.
Speakers at the London Plasticity Forum will include:
- Chris Grantham, circular economy portfolio director from design firm IDEO;
- Peter Lacy, global managing director of sustainability services at Accenture;
- Willem De Vos, CEO of the Society of Plastics Engineers; and
- Simon Widmer, project manager – circular design at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Topics to be covered at the forum include designing for recycling, standardizing materials, using recycled-content resins, reducing plastic waste, take-back programs and influencing public opinion about recycling.
