Phoenix-based waste and recycling company Republic Services, Griffith, Indiana-based waste facility design-build company Cambridge Cos. and Apalachin, New York-based civil, structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) engineering company Larson Design Group were awarded the ENR (Engineering News-Record) Southwest Energy/Industrial Best Project for Republic’s Southern Nevada Recycling Center. The project will be honored at the ENR Best Project Event in Phoenix Nov. 10, 2016.

Completed in November 2015, Republic’s Southern Nevada Recycling Center is the largest residential single-stream recycling center in the nation and is set to double residential recycling capacity in southern Nevada. The 110,000-square-foot facility features advanced recycling technologies an interactive learning center, automated control systems, touch-screen human machine interface controls, supervisory control data acquisition monitoring, remote access to continually monitor operations, five optical sorters and roof-mounted system to produce 500 kilowatts of solar power.

Cambridge and the Larson Design Group worked with Republic Services throughout the course of the project and say they are honored to have been chosen as the Best Energy/Industrial Project by ENR Southwest.

Jeff Eriks, chief business development officer at Cambridge, says, “Being chosen for this award is a privilege. The recognition by ENR for Republic’s Southern Nevada Recycling Center is a real honor, and Cambridge is thrilled to have been a part of a project that is making such a large impact.”

Len Christopher, general manager of Republic Services, says, “We are honored to be recognized with this award. A recycling center of this magnitude is an extraordinary undertaking and reflects the exemplary work of everyone on the team.”
