Northbrook, Illinois-based KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp., a maker of unbleached kraft paper and packaging products, has announced plans to invest $6 million in new equipment at its paper mill in Cowpens, South Carolina.

KapStone’s South Carolina mill produces recycled-content linerboard and medium. The company says its investment at the mill will allow it to install a new hydraulic dilution control headbox, as well as a new bottom-ply chain conveyor. The new equipment is expected to increase the mill’s speed, efficiency and quality of its products.

“KapStone team members are proud to contribute to the success of our customers and communities. Investing in our industry-leading recycled paper mill in Cowpens demonstrates our continued commitment to Cherokee County,” says Steven Leahy, vice president of mill operations at the Cowpens mill. “Working together with our state and local partners, we are excited about the future of our business and the benefits it can provide for all of our stakeholders.”

In late January 2018, Norcross, Georgia-based paper producer WestRock announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire KapStone for $4.9 billion.
