Rigaku Analytical Devices, a manufacturer of handheld and portable spectroscopic analyzers with U.S. headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas, will demonstrate its newest handheld analyzer for metal alloy analysis at the annual ISRI Convention and Exposition 2018 in booth 918. ISRI 2018 is organized by Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI), Washington, and is taking place April 14-19 in Las Vegas.

The Rigaku KT-100S laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) handheld analyzer provides an alternative for identification of a larger number of alloys, Rigaku says. The KT-100S handheld LIBS metal analyzer is designed for on-the-spot identification of the most difficult alloys, including aluminum grades, with better detection limits and the ability to analyzer more alloys. This includes better precision for low alloy steels, stainless steels, high temperature alloys and the added detection of lithium (Li).

The KT-100S is MIL-STD 810G drop-test certified and IP-54 dust protection rated, making it ideal for use in scrap metal yards, Rigaku says. Because the KT Series of handheld LIBS analyzers uses a laser excitation source, there is minimal to no regulatory licensing requirements.

“We look forward to demonstrating the upgraded capabilities of the KT-100S analyzer this week at ISRI,” David Mercuro, general manager at Rigaku, says. “Our handheld LIBS platform was specifically built for this audience and we are confident we have the solution to expand sorting capabilities to our users for an even greater profit.”
