Hurricane Florence causes postponement of ISRI virtual event

The Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has postponed an event it has billed as a “virtual town hall” because of predicted disruptions in the Southeast Atlantic Coast region from Hurricane Florence. The event, titled “The China Problem,” had been initially scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, but will now take place Thursday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

ISRI announced the evening of Thursday, Sept. 13, that “due to inclement weather forecasted for parts of the Southeastern U.S., the ISRI Virtual Town Hall has been rescheduled. Our thoughts are with those preparing for the potential impacts of Hurricane Florence.”

According to ISRI, the event include remarks for ISRI President Robin Wiener, ISRI Chair Brian Shine and ISRI staff members Adina Renee Adler and Joe Pickard regarding the “hardline crackdown on imports” of scrap materials undertaken by the Chinese government in 2017 and 2018.

“Now the industry is also faced with a U.S.- China trade war, import restrictions across Asia and other trade-constraining proposals in international venues,” adds the association.

The online event will offer the chance for participants “to ask questions and share [their] ideas” on how ISRI can best represent the recycling industry, according to the group.
