World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), Brussels, was 148.6 million metric tons in November 2018, a 5.8 percent increase compared with November 2017.

The U.S. produced 7.4 million metric tons of crude steel in November 2018, an increase of 11.8 percent compared with November 2017.

China’s percentage increase was slightly smaller at 10.8 percent, however the country produced considerably more steel than the U.S. did at 77.6 million metric tons.

France led the way overall in terms of production growth year over year. The country produced 1.4 million metric tons of crude steel in November, which was 12.8 percent more than in November 2017. However, production in Italy and Spain decreased for November, with Italy, at 2.2 million tons, producing 1 percent less than one year earlier, and Spain producing 0.7 percent less steel at 1.3 million metric tons.

Japan produced 8.7 million tons of crude steel in November 2018, a decrease of 0.5 percent compared with November 2017, while South Korea produced 5.9 million metric tons of crude steel, or 1.1 percent more than in November 2017.

Production in Brazil was 2.8 million metric ton, 6.1 percent less than in November 2017.

Turkey’s crude steel production for November 2018 was 3.1 million metric tons, 2.1 percent less than in November 2017.

Crude steel production in the Ukraine was 1.7 million metric tons, 11.2 percent less than it made in November 2017.
