Weima spotlights shredders for plastics recycling at K 2019

Weima spotlights shredders for plastics recycling at K 2019

Weima, a size-reduction equipment manufacturer based in Ilsfeld, Germany, says it plans to present two large single-shaft shredders in Hall 9, stand A 59, at K 2019, Oct. 16-23 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Both machines can be used either standalone or as part of a production line. The WKS 1800 and WLK 1500 shred not only bulky objects but also tear-resistant fibers and film to a homogeneous size.

To have sufficient power reserves to handle a full hopper of difficult material, the WKS 1800 single-shaft shredder is equipped with a sturdy hydraulic drive, Weima says. Stopping, starting and reversing the rotor is possible at any time, even under the toughest conditions. High torque even with low power input makes this drive energy-efficient for lower operating costs.

Instead of a horizontal ram, the WKS Series has a swing ram system that is guided on rolls. That makes the shredder compact and allows a more aggressive material infeed, according to the manufacturer, which adds that the machine is easy to service and maintain.

Thanks to its particularly low feeding point at a height of roughly 2.20 meters, or 7.2 feet, the WKS can be feed by conveyor belt, forklift truck or by hand. It features a rotor diameter of approximately 500 millimeters, or 1.6 feet.

New at K 2019 is the modified Weima WAP gearbox. Its safety clutch, located in the sensor-monitored belt pulley, protects the shredder from impurities and major damage. Automatic stopping is possible at any time. For operations shredding thin film or fibers, clogging is prevented by the segmented floor guide and the precise guidance of the ram that presses the material to be shredded against the rotating rotor, the company says.

The standard hydraulically lowered swivel screen basket is designed to improve accessibility and simplify maintenance. Furthermore, all WLK shredders have a Pipespacer hopper that prevents material bridging, which is important when shredding large purgings, for example, Weima says.

The WLK Series shredders can be fitted with either the universal V-rotor or the F-rotor developed especially for film and fibers. In addition, a wear protection coating is available as an option for particularly abrasive materials.

Both rotor variants have a diameter of nearly 370 millimeters, or 1.2 feet.
