Matalco, headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, hosted a groundbreaking event at its new $80 million aluminum recycling facility in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The company first announced plans for this facility in January. 

According to a report from WSAU News, Wausau, Wisconsin, the 110,000-square-foot plant will have the latest technology to produce more than 230 pounds (or 115,000 tons) of aluminum billet per year. The plant will employ 80 permanent full-time positions that include both skilled and unskilled labor. 

Matalco had originally reported plans to break ground on the facility in April or May; however, WSAU News reports that delays in Department of Natural Resources permitting process set the groundbreaking date back. The company had previously announced that construction of the facility will take about 18 months, but it’s uncertain if it will take longer as a result of the delayed start. 

Matalco was founded in 2005 and operates four remelt and casting facilities in Lordstown and Canton, Ohio; in Bluffton, Indiana; and in Brampton.
