The City & State New York, a media organization covering New York’s local state politics and policy, has honored John Shegerian, co-founder and executive chairman of Fresno, California-based electronics and IT asset disposition (ITAD) provider ERI, on its latest Responsible 100 list. The Responsible 100 list honors socially responsible leaders in New York.

This month, the annual awards ceremony honored a group of 100 New Yorkers who are setting standards of excellence dedication and leadership in improving their communities and making transformative change. For 2019, the organization selected 100 New Yorkers from 10 sectors who embody one or more of the core principles of social responsibility: charity, diversity, environment and sustainability, equity, ethics, privacy, sourcing, transparency, volunteerism and community engagement.

“What a tremendous honor to be named alongside this list of stellar New York visionaries,” Shegerian says of the award. “We’re proud of what we do at ERI—protecting people, the planet and privacy…and keeping millions of pounds of toxic e-waste out of landfills. Being recognized at this event is a powerful reminder that we’re doing the right thing and helps inspire us to continue with our commitment to do more.”

Categories for the award included nonprofit and philanthropic awards, accounting and finance awards, education awards, health care awards, infrastructure awards, legal awards, lobbying and consulting awards, real estate awards, sports and entertainment awards, and tech and telecom awards. Shegerian was recognized as one of 10 leaders in the tech and telecom awards category. Individuals in that category included the following people:

• Kamal Bherwani, CEO of GCOM Software LLC

• Rodney Capel, vice president of state government affairs at Charter Communications

• Roberto Celestin, public policy advocacy lead at Airbnb

• Sara Link, director of societal impact at Verizon

• Kristin Malek, senior manager of supplier diversity at CDW

• Andrew Martin, head of cross asset technology analysis at Societe Generale

• Lee Schroeder, executive vice president of government and community affairs and chief diversity officer at Altice USA

• Elizabeth Segal, executive director of New York City external affairs at AT&T

• John Shegerian, executive chairman at ERI

• Stu Solomon, chief of intelligence solutions at Recorded Future
