The Brussels-based International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), which was forced to cancel its mid-May event in that city because of COVID-19-related restrictions, has scheduled replacement online events for May 15 and 19.

An ISSF “Open Panel Session” has been scheduled for Friday, May 15, beginning at 10 a.m. Central European Time (CET), with the topic of sustainability as its focus. ISSF says three speakers will be featured:

  • Geert Verbeeck, chief technology officer at Luxembourg-based Aperam, will speak on sustainability from a stainless steel producer’s point of view;
  • Tom Crocker, research analyst from London-based CDP Global, will speak about the support for future industry investment as it pertains to carbon footprint development; and
  • Barbara Reck, senior research scientist from Yale University in the United States, will explain a global stainless steel inventories and flows project with which she has been involved.

The following week, on Tuesday, May 19, beginning at 10 a.m. CET, the ISSF Annual Awards will be handed out (virtually) following an introduction by Bernardo Velázquez, chair of the ISSF. Award categories include New Applications (New Development and New Technology), Safety and Sustainability.

Also at that online event, new ISSF Secretary-General Tim Collins will be introduced, followed by an overview of new ISSF publications and a review of stainless steel markets. After the webinar, all participants will be sent the documents and information that was presented, says ISSF.

Registration information for the sustainability session can be found on this web page and for the awards ceremony and media conference on this web page.
