BIR appoints new E-Scrap Committee chair

The Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has announced that its president Tom Bird has appointed Dr. Helmut Kolba of Germany-based Remondis Electrorecycling GmbH as new chairman of the organization’s E-Scrap Committee.

“I am very happy that Dr. Kolba has accepted the position within our E-Scrap Committee, and I am confident that he will bring a fresh vision and new initiatives to this important group of industry experts,” says Bird. Bird also has extended his thanks to outgoing chairman Thomas Papageorgiou of Greece-based Anamet S.A., for his many years of dedication. Papageorgiou will stay as a member on the E-Scrap Committee.

Kolba is managing director of Remondis Electrorecycling GmbH, which he joined in 2010. He also has worked for Sony Austria as its managing director as well and for Austria-based UFH, a compliance system for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

During his time with UFH he also served as chairman of the WEEE Forum, another Brussels-based association.

Remondis describes itself as one of the world’s largest recycling, service and water companies. The firm has more than 30,000 employees and around 900 business locations on four continents.

BIR describes itself as an international trade association of recycling industries with the ability to represent the wider industry in about 70 countries.
