The Plastics Division of the Washington-based American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced Aurora, Illinois-based INEOS Styrolution America LLC has joined as a member.

Ineos Styrolution and Texas-based AmSty, both producers of polystyrene (PS), have announced plans to construct a 100-ton-per-day facility in northern Illinois that will use Agilyx chemical recycling technology to convert discarded PS back into what the firms call “virgin-equivalent styrene monomer.”

Says Ricardo Cuetos, a vice president of INEOS Styrolution Americas, “Our company is committed to improving and increasing the recovery of post-consumer polystyrene waste. Joining ACC’s Plastics Division supports both our company’s strong sustainability goals and strengthens our industry’s commitment and drive for innovation and a circular economy in all market segments.”

Comments Joshua Baca, vice president of ACC’s Plastics Division, “Our growing membership reflects our sector’s shared drive and focus on innovating and deploying solutions to society’s greatest challenges. With the support of our members, we look forward to driving more circular and sustainable solutions to end plastic waste through increased alignment among key stakeholders.”
