Rumpke acquires recycling plant in Kentucky

Cincinnati-based Rumpke Waste & Recycling says it has purchased assets from Central Kentucky Fiber Resources, including the firm’s recycling plant in Lexington, Kentucky.
“Throughout our family company’s nearly 90-year history, recycling has been an integral part of our story,” says Adam Rumpke, a regional vice president with the firm. “We are very excited about this opportunity to operate a recycling facility in central Kentucky, and work to grow our service offerings in the region.”
On its website, Central Kentucky Fiber Resources says it handles “recyclable paper, plastic and metal products.” The firm adds, “Plant equipment includes a high-speed, high-density automatic baling system.”
In addition to the Central Kentucky Fiber Resources acquisition, Rumpke has announced it will be constructing a $5 million solid waste transfer facility in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The 21,600-square-foot facility will be used to transport residential and commercial waste collected in Scott and surrounding counties to Rumpke’s regional landfills in Pendleton and Montgomery County, Kentucky.
“Rumpke has operated a landfill and hauling operation in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, since 1989,” says Adam Rumpke. “Our business has seen steady growth, and we continue to make investments to operate more efficiently and best serve our customers.”
Construction of the Scott County facility is expected to be complete in April 2021.
Rumpke currently operates 16 facilities in Kentucky, including six transfer stations, three landfills, one recycling center, six truck depots and one convenience center.
