Schnitzer Steel Industries makes new appointment to board of directors

Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc., Portland, Oregon, announced that its board of directors has appointed Gregory R. Friedman as a new independent director, effective immediately. Friedman will serve on the audit committee and the compensation and human resources committee of the board.

During his 30-year career, Friedman has led business growth through a variety of senior executive roles. He currently serves as the chief financial officer of Mura Technology, a plastics recycling technology company that aims to become the world’s prime producer of recycled hydrocarbons.

From 2018 to 2021, Friedman served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Corteva Agriscience, a spin-off of DowDuPont where, among other things, he shepherded a successful initial public offering of the company. Friedman previously held various financial leadership positions across a broad product range at DuPont from 2000 through 2018 with responsibility for financial risk management and controls, financial accounting, financial planning and analysis and capital markets activities, including debt, equity and investor relations. Friedman holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.
